Absolute beauty section.
Uber to Pucon Ski Center, had to walk final kilometer. Couldn’t register cause too early, but workers at ski station helped me contact Park Ranger.
Midst and Fog to start the day. Trail marker?… I barely know her!
At around 5pm when I was starting to hit a block, I ran into Felix! First GPT hiker on the trail and I was estatic. We pushed the final 8km to Chinay together.
Despite heading different directions on the GPT, and having different section end goals, we were both headed to Laguna Azul. Saw lots of people on the trail, definitely a new feeling.
There is a really nice waterfall just before the final climb towards to Laguna Azul, highly recommend.
Laguna Azul—> Liquiñe was nice and calm. Though quite muddy. Also, just before gate on the left is one of the biggest trees I’ve ever seen.
Camping at Termas in town, 20k with great wifi, bathrooms, and Termas.
This section is quite nice.

Spectacular alpine hiking around Volcáns Villarrica and Quetrupillán, then descend through aracharia forest where pinions are harvested.
We had to cut this stage short due to slow progress hiking in recent snow down to 1000m and rerouted southbound on the RR when the next storm arrived at Lago Azul. Useful tip if you anticipate a lot of snow: bring ice spikes/ultralight crampons -- we purchased some at Volcanica in Pucon, a very comprehensive outdoor gear store. Also: the highest snow accumulation is on Volcan Villarica and stays longer on the south sides of all the slopes. Melting snow means water was always near.
