==Season 2025/26= * <span style="background-color:aqua;">'''26 Feb / 3 days / From Tortel to Glaciar Steffen / Pierre et Clotilde </span> We wanted to get closer to the Steffen Glacier by packraft, but the weather conditions prevented us from doing so. It's very windy in that area, so we went by lancha. To organize a packrafting expedition from Tortel, you normally have to inform the Port Authority, which provides a form to fill out (equipment, itinerary, means of communication, etc.). They review and approve it before allowing you to depart. While it's possible to bypass this step, these are the "official" rules. Alternatively, if the weather is truly bad for reaching the fjord and Puerto Huemules, you can contact companies that offer glacier tours and negotiate to have them drop you off at the Conaf refuge (free and spacious). You can then wait for optimal conditions to return by packraft. The route to the glacier isn't complicated, however, you'll need a packraft to cross the Huemules River and continue on the other side. There are a few locals in the area, mostly lumberjacks. You can also travel with them, as they make round trips throughout the month to sell their timber. ==Resupply About 25 years ago Glaciar Steffen retreated to a degree that a lake formed at the glacier end. Under NO circumstances camp on the Trail==nice pasture at the lake shore. Occasionally lakes higher up on the edge of glacier Steffen drain through the glacier resulting in substantial glacial lake outburst floods (GLOF). If this occurs, the lake level rises in one or two hours several meters. We camped next to National Park sign up on the glacier morane about 200 m from the lake shore.

=Access The lake is full of stranded blocks of ice. After crossing this lake by packraft the upper part of the valley of Rio Huemules can be visited. In good weather a 1070 m high viewpoint can be ascended to Route=admire the Northern Patagonian Icefield.
